What is the CRI (colour rendering index) of the Gekko K7 light?
Response from Gekko:-

"In tungsten mode the CRI of the K7 is about 85. Truth is however CRI is a very poor measurement of any discontinuous light source (LED, Fluorescent) for film and TV, designed as it is around subjective data.

The best method of testing the quality of a discontinuous source is by direct comparison with a traditional light source e.g. Tungsten. To achieve this at Gekko we photograph a MacBeth chart with a known good reference source at the desired colour temperature. We then swap out the reference source for our fixture, photograph the chart again and then bisect each square in Photoshop so we can carry out a direct comparison of the response to each colour from our fixture and the reference source.

Our goal in production is to ensure we have equal response from each colour and across the grey scale, which also means they can reliably be used in conjunction with other good quality sources.

Film and Broadcast have over the years adopted CRI as a measurement of colour quality when it is very much less than perfect. In reality it is entirely feasible to have a lamp of any technology which has a high CRI but renders very badly on Film or Digital media. The reverse is also true.

At Gekko we test comparatively all of our fixtures to derive the best possible performance for their chosen use – on camera."
How 'wide' is the light from the gekko k7 light? Is this good for wedding shoots?
The beam angle from a K7 is nominally 50 degrees. It would be used much the same way as a dedo would be as a small hard source. For wedding shoots it could be used as a light or back light, or as a powerful camera top light.
